Despite the convenience and energy-savings benefits, concerns regarding data privacy remain a significant barrier to widespread adoption of smart products like smart thermostats. In fact, a recent study found that 72% of smart home product owners are concerned with the security of the personal data collected by their devices. Sensi recently spoke with ACHR NEWS, one of the HVACR industry’s most trusted publications, on how contractors can help ease customer concerns regarding smart thermostats and data privacy. As data breaches from major companies continue to make headlines, some homeowners are afraid of what could happen entrusting this technology with pieces of their personal information. We’re even seeing consumer brands leveraging customer data to sell to third parties for marketing purposes.
Fortunately, products like the Sensi™ smart thermostats won’t make you choose between taking advantage of the energy- and time-saving benefits of smart home technology and sharing data to be used for third-party marketing purposes. While there have been industry-wide efforts by all major manufacturers of this technology to protect user data as best as they can, we prioritize data privacy even further by also caring about how the manufacturer leverages the data of its customers. We don’t use smart thermostat activity for targeting or advertising purposes, nor do we sell personal data to outside organizations for any reason.
Sensi only shares data with a third party at the request of the user, such as a demand response with the user’s utility provider. Additionally, Sensi does not monitor customers or attempt to make decisions about their comfort for them based on their data. You choose for yourself and your desired comfort levels.
