Fall HVAC tips to prepare for colder months ahead
Leaves are falling and fall is the perfect time to check in with your HVAC system and thermostat settings to prepare for the colder winter months ahead. Sensi has a few tips to make sure you’re prepared, stay comfortable indoors and even save energy!
Check in with your Sensi schedule
With temperatures and daylight shifting in the fall, oftentimes so do work and school schedules. Do a quick check in on your daily and weekly thermostat schedules as you turn on your furnace. Some temperatures and schedules may need to be adjusted for the cooler months.
Here’s a refresher on how to create custom schedules easily with Sensi to maximize your comfort and energy savings.
Fix drafty windows and doors
Window and doors can be a source of energy leaks if they are not properly sealed. Don’t let your home’s heat slip out while the cold air creeps in—drafts can be extremely costly and not energy efficient. Prep your windows and doors with weather-stripping before the winter season to reduce leaks. Already weatherized? Check existing caulk for tears or gaps and replace as necessary.
Protect your equipment
For optimal energy savings, your heating and cooling equipment should be well maintained. Replace the furnace filter once a month, or as recommended by the manufacturer. Dirty filters can restrict airflow, increasing energy usage and costs. Schedule regular fall maintenance with your HVAC contractor. If you don't have a contractor you can find a Sensi partner.
Check your vents
Visually inspect your vents to ensure they’re open for maximum air flow. Take a vacuum to clean dust and debris off of vents to breathe cleaner air.
Review your usage in the app
And finally, use your Sensi app to view your monthly archive of usage over the past year. It will help you predict what the upcoming months will look like and identify where you could potentially save energy this fall and winter.
