The “Cycle Rate” setting, accessible in the Sensi mobile app, allows you to customize temperature control to suit your personal preference. Cycle rate options include Fast, Medium and Slow.
- For most homes with ducted heating and cooling systems, the Medium setting is optimal.
- For most homes with hot water boilers or steam heating systems, the Slow heating cycle rate is optimal.
- For the tightest temperature control, select the Fast cycle rate.
A faster cycle rate provides tighter temperature control and shorter on/off cycles. A slower cycle rate provides a bit wider of a temperature swing and longer on/off cycles. If you feel that your system is turning on and off too quickly, or causing wide temperature swings by turning on and off too slowly, simply adjust the cycle rate.

Cycle rate settings for High-Efficiency furnaces (90% and higher)
Most high-efficiency furnaces reach peak efficiency after they are fully warmed up. Therefore, peak efficiencies are achieved with longer on/off cycles by selecting a slower cycle rate setting. If a slower cycle rate produces too wide of a temperatyure swing (less comfort) use a faster cycle rate setting.
For high-efficiency applications, the optimum solution for cycle rate selection is the setting that produces the longest runtime (for furnace efficiency) at which you’re comfortable. Try the slowest cycle rate setting. If it’s comfortable, it provides maximum efficiency. If it’s not comfortable, continue shortening the cycle rate until an acceptable comfort level is achieved.
